SupportFix common Ninja air fryer problems
Quick answers for soggy food, smoke, power problems and cleaning. Type your problem or pick a topic below.
Food is not crispy enough
- Preheat the unit for about 3 minutes before adding food.
- Always use the crisper plate when air frying.
- Cook in a single layer; overcrowding traps steam.
- Pat food dry and add a light coat of oil to fresh vegetables.
- Shake or flip halfway through cooking.
Food cooks unevenly between batches
- Cut pieces to a similar size.
- Shake the basket more often for small items like fries.
- On 2-basket models, use Match Cook when both baskets hold the same food.
White smoke during cooking
- White smoke usually comes from fat or grease heating up in the basket.
- Pour off excess fat between batches when cooking bacon or fatty meats.
- Clean the basket and crisper plate after every use so old grease does not burn.
Black smoke or a burning smell
- Turn the unit off and unplug it straight away.
- Let it cool fully, then check for food stuck near the heating element.
- If black smoke continues, stop using it and contact Ninja support.
Unit will not turn on or start
- Check the outlet with another appliance.
- Make sure every basket is pushed fully into place; the unit will not run with a basket out.
- Plug directly into the wall rather than a power strip.
Display shows an error or stops mid-cook
- Unplug for a few minutes, then restart.
- Make sure the vents at the back and sides are not blocked.
- Note the error code and look it up in your manual or with Ninja support.
Nonstick coating is peeling
- Avoid metal utensils and abrasive scrubbers.
- Skip aerosol cooking sprays, which can build up and damage coatings.
- Replace a peeling basket or crisper plate rather than cooking on it.
Sticky residue on the basket
- Soak the basket in hot soapy water for 15 to 20 minutes.
- Use a soft brush or non-scratch sponge.
- For Crispi glassware, check the manual for dishwasher-safe parts.
